Bernard Tan Sy, M.D., is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician who has been caring for patients at Family Medical Associates & Pediatrics since 2007. With specialized training in both adult and pediatric medicine, Dr. Sy provides comprehensive primary care for patients across the lifespan, from childhood through adulthood.
Dr. Sy earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at East Carolina University/Brody School of Medicine, where he also served as Chief Resident during his final year of training.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sy has demonstrated a strong commitment to medical leadership, education, and service. His professional experience has included serving as Chief of Staff at University Medical Center, holding multiple Medical Director positions, serving as a hospice physician, and serving as OBGYN Department Chairman at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. He has also dedicated significant time to educating future healthcare professionals through clinical teaching and precepting.
Dr. Sy currently serves as a preceptor for Middle Tennessee State University's Physician Assistant Program, a role he has held since 2025, and became a preceptor for Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2026. His longstanding commitment to education also includes previous service as an adjunct professor in Cumberland University's Athletic Training Program and as a supervisor for athletic training students at Family Medical.
Dr. Sy's commitment extends well beyond the walls of the medical office. He is actively involved in the Wilson County community and is a strong supporter of local schools and student athletics, frequently sponsoring local sports teams and programs. His dedication to the families he serves has also earned significant community recognition. Dr. Sy was voted Best Pediatrician in Wilson County in both 2025 and 2026 and was named a Top 3 Finalist for Best Primary Care Physician in Wilson County in 2026.
